Charles Fitz

Charles E. “Chuck” Fitz, age 84 of Chambersburg, PA; passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Menno Haven Nursing Home. Born March 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles and Catherine Fisher Fitz.
A WWII veteran, Chuck served honorably in the Army-Air Corps until November 30, 1948. He later went to work at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1985 as an electronics Technician after more than 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Friendship Engine Hose Company, Fire Police in Chambersburg, the Merry Methodist choir, NARF, and the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Chuck attended the Milton S. Hershey Schools for eleven years, prior to his enlistment. He enjoyed singing, gardening, and helping others by donating blood, where he became a member of the 11 gallon club for the American Red Cross.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth Gontz Fitz, whom he married on November 14, 2005; two children, Carol S. Galloway (husband Mitchell) of York, PA and Kevin L. Fitz (wife Karin) of Chambersburg, PA; two grandchildren, Kimberly Galloway( fiancé Brian Bonawitz) of Lebanon, PA and Bradley Galloway (wife Jennifer) of Seven Valley, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Charles E. Fitz, Jr. and Daniel L. Fitz.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Mitchell Galloway and Rev. Dr. Kenny Craig will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA or the Chambersburg Baptist Church Building Fund, 588 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
