Charles E. Goetz, of Chambersburg, PA, departed this life on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. He was 90 years old. Charles was born February 7, 1932 in Chambersburg to Pearls Sheets Goetz and Edward Fleming Goetz. His mother preceded him in death in 1982 and his father in 1983. Charles was a 1950 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. He proudly served in the US Army from 1950-1953 in the Korean Conflict as a Transportation Specialist. In the late 1940’s Charles went to work in the family business, E.F. Goetz Construction Company, the predecessor to E.F. Goetz & Sons Construction Corporation until his retirement in 1995.
Charles lived in Chambersburg his entire life. He served the community in various capacities during his life. He was a past president of the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation, Friendship Fire Company, and the Chambersburg Fireman’s Relief Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg Municipal Authority, and Wilson College. Charles belonged to the Elks Club, Chambersburg Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other organizations. He was a member of George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM and the Harrisburg Consistory.
He married his wife, Phyllis Sollenberger on August 12, 1955. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their two sons, Charles Goetz, Jr. and wife Susan and Edward F. Goetz, III and wife Tammy; four grandchildren, Jennifer Preisler and husband Jeremy, Tara Goetz, Myranda Gaul and husband Bryan, and Shyane Goetz; and four great-grandchildren, Myles Preisler, Braxton Preisler, Wyatt Whittemore, and Paislee Goetz. He is also survived by one brother, Harry F. Goetz; and one niece, Carolyn J. Shaffer. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa Goetz, and a great-grandson, Parker Preisler.
A celebration of Charles’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, June 13, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home where members of George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 7:00 PM. Friends will also be received one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
