Charles E. Heckman, age 97, of Chambersburg, PA passed away at Menno Haven Nursing Center on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Born August 27, 1915 in Letterkenny Township, he was the son of the late James M. and Emma K. Huber Heckman.
A 1933 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Heckman went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. A sales manager for Harrisburg Auto Parts, Mr. Heckman dedicated 23 years of service, retiring in 1977. In addition, he also worked for Western Auto. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland, PA, the George Washington Lodge #143 F & A. M, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg, and the Zembo Temple of the Harrisburg Consistory.
Surviving is his wife of 72 years, Margaretta L. Crider Heckman, whom he married September 1, 1940; one son, Jerry Heckman of New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Adam C. Heckman of Rockland, MA and Kristin Kozera of Schwenksville, PA; and four great grandchildren, Paige and Josephine Kozera and Bella and Clayton Heckman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Heckman and Bruce Heckman
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Veteran’s Cemetery; where Chaplain Vernon Isner will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 6-8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Organ Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church, 415 Bridge St., New Cumberland, PA 17070 or to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
