Charles Hollinshead

Charles W. Hollinshead, age 92, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away at the Village of Laurel Run on Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Born September 4, 1920 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Hollinshead and Hattie N. Miner Hollinshead Coleman.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Hollinshead served honorably during WWII; where he was wounded in action, and awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He dedicated 31 years of service at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in Electronics in 1977. Mr. Hollinshead was a member of the American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg, and King Street United Brethren Church. He enjoyed trains, fishing, baseball, and bowling.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Verna M. Wiles Hollinshead, whom he married on October 5, 1942; three children, Gary E. Hollinshead (wife Judy) of New Franklin, PA, Sandra J. Cooper (husband Wesley) of Chambersburg, PA, and Aleta Anne Groat (husband Douglas) of Kyles Ford, TN; five grandchildren, Pamela Smith of Chambersburg, PA; Lori McClanahan of Scotland, PA; Stacey Nozzi of Fayetteville, PA; Nicole Carlson of Florida; and Michael Cooper of Mercersburg, PA, six great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson, and two siblings, Keith Hollinshead (wife Ann) of Canada and Lorraine Kuykendall (husband William) of Greencastle, PA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey R. Hamsher and two siblings, Robert Eugene and Kenny Hollinshead.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Village of Laurel Run, 6375 Chambersburg Rd., Fayetteville, PA 17222 or to Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 761 5th Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
