Charles Horner

October 20, 1931 — June 9, 2017

Charles R. “Jack” Horner, Jr., age 85 of St. Thomas, PA, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. Born October 20, 1931, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Colleen Unger Horner, Sr.
A 1950 graduate of the former Hagerstown High School, Jack went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Talented with his hands, Jack started working at Horner Manufacturing, (which his father started), where they manufactured furniture for over 30 years. He then set out to try his hand in the restaurant business, purchasing the Copper Kettle with his wife, Lorraine, as the co-owners and operators of the Copper Kettle Restaurant, which they operated for 18 years, until selling the restaurant. Retirement bored Jack, so he went back to work, working part-time, at Sunnyway and Hamilton Heights Market to name a few. In his younger years, Jack had coached the Halfway Little League and was a coach for the Washington County Recreational Football League. An avid sports fan, Jack enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles, Colts, and Ravens. He was a member of Solomon United Church of Christ, the St. Thomas Fire Company, and the St. Thomas American Legion. He was a former member of the Fountain Head Country Club and the Christ Reformed Church in Hagerstown. Jack enjoyed golf, working his miniature horse farm, working, cooking, and dancing.
Surviving is his wife of 23 years, Donna Pike Horner; two children, Kim A. Horner (wife Denise) of Boonsboro, MD and Kirk D. Horner (wife Mary Ellen) of Mt. Carmel, TN; four step-children, Robert A. Stottlemyer of Orlando, FL, Lorre A. Stottlemyer of Frederick, MD, Jeffrey Rion of St. Thomas, PA, and Caryl Rion of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, James Horner of Catonsville, MD, Joseph Horner of Boonsboro, MD, Erin H. Sublette (husband Brandon) of Lacey, WA, and Jack M. Rion of Congers, NY; a step-sister, Dianne Colwell (husband Richard) of Port Orange, FL; his first wife, Dorothy J. Nigh; and his best friend, J.J. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Lorraine A. Jacobs Horner and a step-daughter, Linda D. Stottlemyer Hunter.
