Charles LeRoy Lehman of Chambersburg, PA, died on December 16, 2023 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Because Charles trusted in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for his righteousness, he had confidence that after death he would be with Jesus. Thus, the family grieves, but not as those who have no hope.
Born on February 3, 1934, to Merle and Ida (Burkholder) Lehman, Charles was the second of 5 children. He attended Portico, Greenvillage, and Springhill Elementary schools; and Shippensburg high school; completing his senior year of high school at Messiah Academy in 1952. In 1958 he graduated from Messiah College with a B.A. in Bible. While in college, he married A Ruth Oldham on June 23, 1956. After college he became an ordained minister in the Brethren in Christ Church, and pastored forty years in the following Pennsylvanian Brethren in Christ churches: Colyer, Center County; Locust Grove, York County; Mowersville, Newburg; and West Side, Chambersburg. During his pastorates at Colyer and Locust Grove he also built houses to support his family. Between serving at Locust Grove and Mowersville, he directed Paxton Street Ministries in Harrisburg, PA. for 3 years. Over his life he served on several boards including Messiah Home/Messiah Lifeways, The Brethren in Christ Allegheny Conference, and Roxbury Holiness Camp, Orrstown, PA, which he also served as treasurer.
