Charles Miller

Charles E. “Bud” Miller, Jr., age 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Menno Haven. Born May 9, 1937, in Camden, NJ, he was a son of the late C. Eugene Miller., Sr. and Florence Wilkens Miller.
Mr. Miller earned his Bachelor of Science in 1959 and his Master of Science in Engineering in 1961, both from Purdue University. He later joined the staff of Shippensburg University, where he taught from 1966 until his retirement in 1998. A lifelong student, Bud was passionate about learning, teaching, collecting books, and studying them from his library. He also enjoyed classical music, collecting, and playing clarinets and saxophones. Bud had co-authored “A Structured Approach to Fortran” a textbook in computer science. He was a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon and Tau Beta Pi. Bud also loved animals, especially Cocker Spaniels, fly fishing, travelling, especially in the Adirondacks and upstate New York, and studying genealogy.
Surviving is his wife of 13 years, Marilyn J. Swartz Miller, whom he married on January 8, 2005; two daughters, Diana Kennedy (husband Marc) of Lusby, MD and Cindy Pierce (husband Doug) of Elizabethton, TN; four grandchildren, Devin Kennedy, Ashleigh, Jessica, and Steffanie Pierce; a brother, Robert “Bob” Miller (wife Beth) of Chambersburg, PA; and numerous extended family. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Cornett Miller in 2004.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his name to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
