Charles E. “Jim” West, 89, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Menno Haven. He was born on June 23, 1927, in Fayetteville, PA. He was the son of the late Edward C. West and Minnie Brown West.
Jim served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Jim continued his service to the country, working at Letterkenny Army Depot as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Second Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.
Through the years, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and summer vacations at Long Beach in North Carolina and Forked River in New Jersey. He had a special fondness for all of the dogs in his life.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia A. Hoover West; two daughters, Diane Roland (husband Ronald) and Christine Helman; three grandsons, James Roland, Jeremy Helman (wife Liza) and Adam Helman (wife Carri); four great-grandchildren, Jarrell, Landen, Jared, and Ava; a sister, Mary McGee; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Second Lutheran Church, 240 E. Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Henry Johnson and Rev. Charles Kampmeyer will officiate. Viewing and interment will be private.
