Charles F. “Freddie” Wetzel, 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 at home. Born November 21, 1934 in Clay Hill, PA he was the son of the late John S. Wetzel and Virginia B. (Hutton) Rebok.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from February 1956 until his honorable discharge February 1958. Freddie did two six month tours in the Mediterranean while in the Marines. He was employed by Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, PA in maintenance facilities retiring after 30 years of service. Freddie was then employed by TB Woods, Chambersburg in material handling retiring after 20 years there.
Freddie was a member of the Marine Corps League, Chambersburg. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, throwing horseshoes and playing the harmonica.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Lou (Lynch) Wetzel who he married December 15, 1961; four children, Charles F. Wetzel, Jr and his wife Lori of New Bern, NC, Crystal Myers and her husband Jeff of Greencastle, PA, Cathy Norcross of Mercersburg, PA and Candy Foschia and her husband Matthew of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Bittinger, Justine Anderson (Matthew), Jonathan Wetzel, Hillary Heck (Matthew), Alexis Myers (Beau Wilson), Shawn Norcross (Molly Sabol), Heather Bowders (Joshua) and Kylee Mitchell (Courtney Wagner); six great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Corbyn, Ellis, Lincoln Charles, Hayden and Harper; a brother J. William Wetzel of California; and a number of half-siblings, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2:30 PM, Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Harold Yeager officiating. Burial will follow in the Browns Mill Cemetery, Marion, PA.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday afternoon in the funeral home.
