Chester V. Teal, Jr., 70, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 9, 1946 in Chambersburg he was a son of the late Chester V. Teal, Sr. and Bessie Marcellice Teal.
A U. S. Marine Corps veteran, Chester served honorably in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal the Navy Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in 1999 after 25 years of service. Early in his life Chester Attended the John Wesley AME Zion Church. He loved fishing, the outdoors, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He also loved sports and cooking. Chester was a father figure to his nieces and nephews and a big brother, mentor and idol to many young gentlemen.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Teal; two children, Sandy (Teal) Rhodes and husband Claude of Chambersburg, and Elston Teal and wife Vicki (Hummel) of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Chessica, Tyrone, Kyleigh, Addison, and Avery; seven siblings, Stanley Teal of Albuquerque, NM, Jonathan Teal and wife Vicky of Hanover, Bessie Twila Carter, Ludell Teal, and Josephine Teal, all of Chambersburg, Vincent Teal of Harrisburg, and Sadie Teal of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by five siblings, Louise Teal, Bonita Hawkins, Mary Lawes, Trudy Teal, and Nancy Colbert.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 6, 2017 at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery where members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will provide military graveside honors. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Chester’s name to a military service oriented charity of one’s choice.
