Chester Wenger

Chester V. Wenger, 84, of Chambersburg, PA, died Saturday evening, April 21, 2012 at his home. Born October 8, 1927 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Morris B. and Elsie Rife Wenger. He attended the former Portico School and the Chicago Technical Institute and later served with the US Army during WWII. Following his discharge from the military he drove a school bus and worked at Wadel’s Garage in Scotland. He then worked for Ken Kauffman who trained him in the plumbing trade and was later employed by Kottcamp Construction. In 1954 he became self-employed as C.V. Wenger, Inc. which today is a third generation business that his sons and grandsons continue to operate. Following his retirement he enjoyed serving as a consultant to his sons and grandsons in the business he established. He was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, Hume-McNeal-Byers AMVETS Post 224, and the Knights of Columbus. In his free time he enjoyed gardening. His wife, Ruth Sanders Wenger, whom he married June 7, 1952, preceded him in death on March 26, 1991.

Mr. Wenger is survived by three children, Deborah L. Wenger and companion Larry Beam of Chambersburg, Glen D. Wenger and wife Doris J. of St. Thomas, and Myron M. Wenger and wife Audrey F. of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Shawn T., Miranda M., Nicole L., Chase N., and Sloane H. Wenger; two sisters, Dorothy G. Finafrock and LuElla M. Crist of Chambersburg; and his companion, Jean Barrick and her family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucinda R. Kuhns; and three brothers, Abraham R., Orville R. and Carl R. Wenger.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Services conducted by Rev. Harold E. Yeager will be private. Interment will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery.
