Claire M. Fish, 89, a resident of Penn Hall and formerly of 709 Sutton Drive, Carlisle, PA, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 11, 2017 at the nursing home. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, Mr. and Mrs. Fish resided for many years on Long Island, NY.
Born July 12, 1927 in Worcester, MA, she was a daughter of the late William and Marion Coakley Commo. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from the University of Massachusetts, and a certificate of advanced studies in Italian from Dickinson College. She retired from Dickinson College in Carlisle, where she worked as an administrative assistant in the modern language department. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg and a former long-time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle. She was also a member of the University of Massachusetts Alumni Association, and she and her husband were very involved throughout their lives with Worldwide Marriage Encounter. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, and playing bridge.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chester “Chet” B. Fish, Jr., whom she married September 10, 1948; five children, Craig Fish of Huntington, NY, Scott Fish of Turner, ME, Maribeth Fish of Chambersburg, Andrea Fish and husband Arthur “Buzz” Hofmann of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, and Brian Fish of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Katie Bradley Liles and husband Jason, Tess Hofmann, and Patrick Hofmann; and two special family friends whom Mr. and Mrs. Fish thought of as a son and daughter, Marco Toninelli of Italy and Mary Stouffer of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gwynne Commo Elmes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Brian Olkowski at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. Interment will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. There will be no public viewing.
