Clarence Rudolph “Larry” Sweene, Jr. 78, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 12, 2022 at the Gettysburg Hospital. Born September 11, 1943 in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence Rudolph Sweene, Sr. and Mildred Orletta Steele Sweene Seibert. He was raised by his mother and step-father, the late John Eugene Seibert.

A 1961 graduate of Bell High School in Frostburg, Larry honorably served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He then went on to work for the IBM Company, then the Lexmark Company, as a salesperson. He retired in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, where he headed the program called Toys for Joy in which he used his woodworking skills to create children’s toys. He was a skilled woodworker and spent many hours a day in his workshop crafting various things. He also enjoyed mowing the grass and often mowed his neighbors lawns in addition to his own.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Donna (Cripe) Sweene, whom he married on August 6, 1966; three children, Tricia Lynn Sweene-Brossart (husband Bryan), Kelly Raye Suggs (husband Rob), and Brian Jason Sweene (wife Danielle); six grandchildren, Brittney, Zac, Taylor, Austin, Alexis and Nicholas; and one brother, Gerald Sweene.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you take your family out for dinner in remembrance of Larry.
