Constance Wessells

May 25, 1917 — February 16, 2012

Constance Elaine Sites Wessells, 94, died February 16, 2012, at Penn Hall Nursing Center, in Chambersburg, PA, where she had been a resident since 2001. Born May 25, 1917, in Clear Spring, MD, she was the daughter of the late George Armour Sites and Mamie Constance Funkhouser Sites. Constance graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1933 and Strayer Business College in Baltimore in 1935. She also graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She attended Johns Hopkins University and graduated with honors from the University of Maryland in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Constance worked at the Curtis Publishing Company and at Fort Holabird Signal Depot. For 30 years she worked for the City of Baltimore as Sr. Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police and the Director of the Bureau of the Budget. In 1947, Constance and Russell Irvin Wessells were married at St. Paul’s Church, Clear Spring, MD, and resided in Baltimore, MD. After retirement they enjoyed living in Punta Gorda, FL, until they moved to the Penn Hall retirement community in 1994 to be nearer the family.

Constance was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother George Ancil Sites, and two sisters, Carmen Sites Cormany and Phyllis Sites Hill. She is survived by two sisters, Edna Denise Sites Bricker Foreman (wife of Bruce) of Chambersburg, PA, and Alita Fern Sites Lichtenwalter (wife of Glen) of Addison, TX, and 23 nephews and nieces, all of whom love her and miss her greatly.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mt. Lena Rd., Boonsboro, MD, on March 17, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends during a reception following the service. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Church later in the spring.
