Dale Grossnickle, 76, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 11, 2016.
Dale was the son of the late C. Basil Grossnickle and Eleanore Brandenburg Grossnickle of Myersville,
MD.
Dale was born on February 16, 1941 and graduated from Middletown High School in 1959. Following
high school, Dale enlisted in the United States Navy for 4 years as an Electricians Mate, but also
volunteered as a Navy Diver. After being honorably discharged, Dale worked for Morgan Keller
Construction, and then entered his family’s insurance business where he finally retired.
Throughout his life, Dale was regarded as a talented craftsman. He mostly enjoyed working with wood,
but also enjoyed metalworking and was an accomplished stonemason. Dale was part of the Southern
Cross Skydiving Club (nicknamed the Flying Skunks) in the late 60’s and jumped every weekend over
Coffman’s farm in Downsville.
Dale loved riding motorcycles. He traveled most of the country and made numerous trips with friends
and family.
Dale is survived by his son Michael C. Grossnickle and wife Adrienne of Myersville; daughter Stephanie
D. May and husband Joseph of Hagerstown; two sisters, Margaret Ellen Catlett and husband Leon of
Fairplay; Carol Ann Harne and husband Glenn of Myersville.
A memorial service will be held at the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren on June 25, 2016 at 11am. The
funeral service will be at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
