Dale E. Sollenberger, 68, of Chambersburg, PA, died Saturday morning, January 19, 2013 at Quincy United Methodist Home after battling cancer since January of 2009. Born August 14, 1944 in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Rhoda Baker Sollenberger. Dale attended schools in Greenvillage and Chambersburg and retired in 1995 from Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Greenvillage and was a life member of the Marine Corps League and the Chambersburg Club, both in Chambersburg and the Hub City Club in Shippensburg. He also held membership in Hume-McNeal-Byers AMVETS Post 224, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, George Washington Lodge # 143 F & AM, and the American Legion Riders, all in Chambersburg. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and played the steel guitar and dobro in several bands over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Beeler Sollenberger, whom he married July 31, 1976; two step-daughters, Darla Shank and husband Greg of Waynesboro and Laurie Miller and companion Howie Foust of Chambersburg; three step-sons, Rodney Barr Stoops Jr. and wife Karen of St. Thomas, Jeffrey Stoops and wife Robin of St. Thomas, and Brian Stoops and wife Debbie of Chambersburg; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Delorse Campbell of Fayetteville; 3 brothers, Nelson Perry and wife Margaret, Ronald Perry and wife Mary, and Bill Perry and wife Marybelle, all of Chambersburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Curtis Stoops.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Pastor Ruth Smith and Chaplain John Winckler officiating. Interment will follow in Air Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
