Darlene J. Burkholder, 73, of Chambersburg, PA, a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, March 24, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. Born December 27, 1938 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Moses M. and Hazel Schellhase Glass. Darlene retired as a Unit Manager from Home Interiors and Gifts, Inc. and most recently had a special affiliation with Trickling Springs Creamery in Chambersburg. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as a greeter and volunteered with the children’s Bible Release program. She was a member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a member and past Star Recorder with the Women of the Moose, and a member of Martha Custis Chapter #342 Order of Easter Star, all in Chambersburg. Darlene had a great love for decorating.
She is survived by her husband, Harold V. Burkholder, whom she married June 29, 1974; seven children, Robin Auchey and husband Lynn of Chesapeake, VA, Pamela Leedy and husband Alan of Chambersburg, Patricia Albert and husband William Jr. of Huntsville, AL, Gladys J. Foor of Chambersburg, Hazel Brown and husband Michael of Chesapeake, VA, Angela Lightner of Fayetteville, and William Burkholder of Western, PA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Robert N. Glass and wife Judy of Chambersburg; and two sisters, Patricia Schroth of Chambersburg and Anna Rae Morsberger and husband James of Fayetteville. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved poodle, Prince. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Burkholder and a brother, Mose L. Glass.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 29, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dick Williams will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where members of Martha Custis Chapter #342 Order of Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7:00 PM. Friends will also be received one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
