Born in Eugene, Oregon. Darv grew up in the Northwest. He attended school in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, graduated from Oregon State University in 1962 and was commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Army. He graduated from the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA in 1985.
When Darv and Sandy relocated to Fayetteville, PA in 2005 he discovered the opportunity to explore some fishing options and in 2008, he founded the Falling Spring Fly Fishing Outing for Wounded Warriors under the auspice of the Healing Waters Fly Fishing Program out of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC. He would invite Warriors up for the day to fish on the Conococheague Creek on the beautiful Waltonian Meadows property of the Izaak Walton League. He would invite local in professional local BBQ Competition Chefs to provide a delicious lunch.
With enhanced friendship in meeting fellow like-minded individuals who owned farms and preserves in Fulton County, the program grew to include deer hunting, gobbler and pheasant hunts, clay shoots and other recreational venues. The program now includes local veterans as well. With generous local support and with the growth of this program, the organization changed the name to Mason-Dixon Warrior Adventures / www.mdwa.us. In 2018 the program became a 501c (3) organization.
Darv also served as Chairman of the Franklin County Crime Solvers from 2006 until 2015. He is the Treasurer of the Falling Spring Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of 61 years marriage, his daughter, Teri Stutz Salisbury (Dennis), grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jason, and Casey Hall, and a son Michael Stutz (Brenda) and their children, Kaylee, Ricky and Aaron.
