Dauphine F. “Doll” Amsley, 71, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, January 22, 2022, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born January 6, 1951 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Leroy L. and Vera M. Black Amsley. She was a 1968 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and had been employed for more than 25 years at the former J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg. She then worked for 17 years at the Chambersburg Hospital as a nursing assistant and unit secretary prior to her retirement in 2013.
A loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be missed by many, including her grandchildren whom she loved greatly. She attended Lifehouse Church and was an active volunteer most of her life with the Franklin Fire Company in Chambersburg where she chaired many event committees throughout the years and was a former EMT. She was also an active participant for many years with the Greencastle Minstrel Show. She worked the voting polls and volunteered at the Salvation Army; participated in a mission trip with the Mt. Olivet United Brethren Church; and enjoyed bus trips and traveling with her family. She enjoyed bowling and bowled with the ladies league at Nellie Fox for many years and participated in local, state, and national tournaments. Her grandchildren were the center of her world and she loved attending their events and activities.
She is survived by three children, Kathy Jo M. Bard of Chambersburg, Brandy Jo R. McCarty and husband Toby of Hancock, MD, and Jason R. Strite and wife Rachel of Chambersburg; and nine grandchildren, Jaren (Sierra), Brady, Riley, Reghan, Sophie, Ryker, Jax, Nicholas, and Colton. She is also survived by eight siblings, Avon Stine and husband Mike, Ed Amsley and wife Cathy, Marvin Amsley, Paulette Rodgers and husband Terry, Vivian Shuman, Doug Amsley and wife Michelle, Penny Seylar, and Jenny Pogue and husband Todd as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Amsley, and two brothers, Wayne and Mark Amsley.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home. There will be a viewing from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, January 27, 2022, and from 1:00 until services begin at 2:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
