David M. Polk, Jr., 74, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Friday afternoon, January 16, 2015 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born February 12, 1940 in Fulton County, PA, he was a son of the late David M., Sr. and Catherine Grace King Polk. A truck driver all of his life, David was last employed by Safety-Kleen, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and the Carousel Club. His hobbies included woodworking and making miniature carousels.
He is survived by his wife, Edeltrud J. Shaffer Polk, whom he married October 20, 1990; eight children, Anthony W. Polk of Martinsburg, WV, Michelle E. Weller (Rodney) of Greencastle, PA, Brenda L. Piper (Rod) of St. Thomas, PA, Kenneth F. Shaffer (Susan) of Middletown, PA, Karl S. Shaffer (Judy) of California, Robert L. Shaffer (Kathy) of California, Carol L. Brubaker (Clifford) of Chambersburg, and Barbara A. Hockenberry (Gary) of Newburg; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Neil of Chambersburg; and a brother, Albert Polk of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Polk; an infant son, David; and infant sister; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Christopher Little officiating. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon-1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
