David L. Tweedy, 64, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born on May 28, 1950 he was the son of the late Newton and Lillian Bjurstrom Tweedy. David spent his working years at the former Grove Worldwide as a flame cutter. David was a member of the Grove Gray Group. David was a member of Solomon’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years.
His hobbies included drawing, stamp collecting, collecting baseball cards, and writing poetry. David was also an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins.
Everyone will cherish memories of David’s positive attitude, loving ways and his inspiration to all, including others battling cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cynthia A. Armstrong Tweedy, whom he married on March 14, 1976; two children Timothy D. and Amanda G. Tweedy, both of Chambersburg; three sisters, Joy Campbell and husband Archie of Stokesdale, NC, Gay Foltz of Carlisle, PA, and Bonnie Shaw and husband Peter of Carlisle, PA; 3 brothers, Dayton and wife Kimbra of McConnellsburg, PA, Dana and wife Tonjia of Palisades, CO and Mark Tweedy and wife Sasha of Chicago, IL; one niece and numerous nephews. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Tweedy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 11:30AM in the Chapel of Thomas L Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Bill Nienstedt will officiate. Interment will follow in Grindstone Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hope Lodge, 125 Lucy Avenue, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
