Delma Appleby, 97, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at her home. Born July 5, 1921 in Cross Keys, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lula Marshall Rhine. Her beloved husband, John Appleby, preceded her in death on October 14, 1983. Delma was employed as an LPN at Chambersburg Hospital for 23 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Thomas Assembly of God and enjoyed reading, playing card games and singing.
She is survived by eight children, Harold Appleby (Judy) of Chambersburg, Twila Lee of Chambersburg, Ernie Appleby (Flora) of Shippensburg, Randall Appleby (Janet) of Ft. Loudon, Charlene Waters of Chambersburg, Dorene Pine (Harold) of St. Thomas, Elna Judy Piper (Barry) of Greencastle and Christopher Appleby (Sally) of Chambersburg; 21 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; 39 great-great grandchildren; and two siblings, Betty Covert and Gerald Pennebaker. In addition to her husband and parents, Delma was preceded in death by three brother, two sisters, a grandson and a great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at St. Thomas Assembly of God, 173 Rhondel Drive, St. Thomas, PA 17252. Pastor Dennis Sproull will officiate. Interment will follow in Neelyton – Pine Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
