Delores J. “Shorty” (Hafer) Roher, 94, of Chambersburg, PA passed away peacefully Thursday, February 24, 2022 in Brookview at Menno Haven. Born October 26, 1927 in Chambersburg she was the daughter of the late Guy J. and Blanche (Poole) Hafer. After her mother’s passing in 1929 Delores was raised by her father and step-mother, Susan Popernack. Delores was married for 50 years to Charles “Bill” Roher, who passed away in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Helen Hafer Shoemaker in 2014.
She was a graduate of the Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1946. She began working in her father’s office of Hafer Construction Company. She later worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and continued her working career at the Chambersburg Hospital and retired in 1989
Delores was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg and served in a variety of capacities, including teaching Sunday school and the Stevens Ministry Team. She volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital and Menno Haven Nursing Home. As a member of the international Aglow Women’s Ministry she demonstrated her love of the Lord by serving both as an officer and part of a ministry team at the Falling Spring Nursing Home and the Franklin County Prison. She loved reading and sharing the Word of God, attending Bible Study groups and inviting people to come to know Jesus with confident assurance of their eternal destiny.
Most of all Delores would like to be remembered as someone who loved and followed Jesus. Her heart was evangelism and working with the Holy Spirit to lead others to the Lord.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Houser and her husband Ed of Palmyra, PA; three grandchildren, Shawn Houser-Fedor and husband Scott of Palmyra, PA, Benjamin Houser and wife Christina of Westerly, RI and Christopher Houser of Hummelstown, PA; nine great-grandchildren, Nathan Lee and wife Angela, Zachary Lee and wife Kate, Madelynne Bennett, Riley, Ethan, and Isabella Fedor, Cadence, Christiana and Grace Houser; four great-great-grandchildren Ainsley Hurst, Abigail, Sebastian and Adelynne Lee and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 1:30 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Dr. Dianne Salter officiating. Burial will follow in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Tuesday afternoon in the funeral home.
