Dennis W. “Bud” Lawson, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at Menno Haven on Monday, July 2, 2018. Born September 21, 1929, in Shenandoah Junction, WV, he was a son of the late Jesse Carson and Edith M. Southard Lawson.
An expert stone and brick Mason, Bud worked for Merletti Brothers Masonry for years, retiring in 1998. Bud co-owned and operated Stoner’s Family Restaurant, with his beloved wife, Celia until 1988, when they sold the restaurant. Bud was a former member of the Elks Club and Results. Bud had a passion for spending time with his family; Bud enjoyed cooking large meals for his family and especially making wooden toys for his grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, making wooden figurines, and tinkering around the garage.
Surviving are five children, Denise Crawford (Geoffrey) of Chambersburg, PA; Eleanor Mayhugh (Rodney) of Chambersburg, PA; Sherry Fields (John) of Chambersburg, PA; Laban Lawson (Beth) of Chambersburg, PA; and Lori Lawson (Melissa) of Chambersburg, PA, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Naomi Merletti of Chambersburg, PA and Steve Lawson of Charlestown, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Celia Stoner Lawson, the love of his life, whom he married August 28, 1948, five siblings, Louise Vassar, Reba Cameron, Nathanial “Nat” Lawson, Dottie Knight, and Ophelia White, and a grandson, Jason Dillow.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Sunday, July 8, 2018, in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Elder John Fields, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Grindstone Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home on Sunday.
