Dewey V. “Jim” Hawk, 84, of Chambersburg, PA, died Tuesday morning, February 11, 2014 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 9, 1929 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late James D. and Mary Nicholas Hawk. He served with the US Army during the Korean War. Jim was employed at the Chambersburg Area Senior High School as a custodian, retiring in 1991. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans Chapter #78, both in Chambersburg, PA.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, M. Louise Yeager Hawk, whom he married April 27, 1951; a son, Charles E. Hawk and wife Diane of Chambersburg; two grandsons, Timothy M. Hawk of Berlin, MD, and Jeremy P. Hawk of Chambersburg; a great-grandson, Drew Michael Hawk; a sister, Frances N. Crum of Hope Mills, NC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred E. and Robert N. Hawk; and a sister, Vivian Kitzmiller Scott.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Lincoln Cemetery with Rev. Donald C. Nolder officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard. There will be no public viewing.
