Donald Horton

Donald R. Horton, 76, of Chambersburg, PA, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at his home. Born April 8, 1938 in Fulton, County, PA, he was a son of the late William and Goldie Chaney Horton. He was employed by the Borough of Chambersburg, retiring after 31 years of service. Mr. Horton was a member of Freedom In Christ Church, the Marine Corps League, and Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224, all in Chambersburg. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Doris J. Zeger Horton, whom he married February 17, 1958; four children, Stephen Horton and wife Lisa of Orrstown, Donna Messer and husband Randall of Orange Park, FL, Laurie Stopyra and husband Gary of Chambersburg, and Kathy Horton of Chambersburg; two step-sons, David Rubeck and wife Sidney of Upper Strasburg and Larry Rubeck and wife Susan of Chambersburg; fourteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Gertrude Helsel of Saxton, PA and Lucille Wiser of Hopewell, PA; and a sister-in-law, Grace Horton of New Egypt, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by ten siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. John Pogue officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
