Donald N. “Jake” Jones, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Menno Haven. Born August 23, 1931 in Richmond Furnace, PA, he was a son of the late Clarence J. and Neva Neil Jones. Donald was a 1949 graduate of the former Metal Township High School and served in the US Army. He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot where he had worked for 35 ½ years. He was a member of Carrick United Methodist Church, where he at one time served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Orrstown Lodge #262 F&AM, a member and Past Grand Tall of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145, a Past Supreme Director of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Harrisburg, a member and Past President of the South Penn Scottish Rite Club, a member of Patriotic Order Sons of American of Orrstown, a member of American Legion Post 517 in Mercersburg, the Eagle’s Club, Inc. of Waynesboro, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #842, both in Chambersburg.
Donald is survived by his wife of sixty years, Patricia Smith Jones, whom he married October 2, 1954; four sisters, Anna Kremp of Chambersburg, Jeanne Shives of Chambersburg, Elaine Eckels of Willow Hill, and Carolyn Reeder and husband Daryl of Ft. Loudon; sixteen nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Jones, Jr. and Joseph Jones; and a sister, Janet Shoop.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 24, 2014 at Carrick United Methodist Church with Rev. James Fox and Rev. Phil Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, where members of Orrstown Lodge #262 will conduct a Masonic service at 7:30 PM. There will also be a viewing on Friday at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM.
