Donald E. Mote, 79, of 40D Menno Village, Chambersburg, PA, passed away at 5:25 PM Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Menno Haven. Born July 8, 1931 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Dorothy Thorne Mote. He was a graduate of the Central Boys High School in Philadelphia and attended Penn State Abington prior to serving in the US Navy. Donald was employed as a Field Engineer with IBM for thirty years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church where he and his wife were members of the Young at Heart Club. His hobbies include sailing, RVing, woodworking, and playing tennis. He enjoyed spending time volunteering at Menno Haven where he tended the rose garden for the past 8 years.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Marie A. Knott Mote, whom he married September 19, 1953; three children, William Mote and wife Catherine of Newtown, PA, Rhonda Pierce and husband Jeffrey of Phoenixville, PA, and Donna Wills and husband Albert of Deer Lake, PA; twelve grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Marilyn Senior and husband Donald of Florida.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Keith Carroll will officiate. Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00AM Wednesday at the church.
