Donald Ray Shannon, 86, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 9, 1935, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Samuel Shannon, Sr. and Martha Hoffman Shannon.
Donald was a 1953 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the US Army. Donald was employed at Mack Truck for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He later drove bus for Tom Gift for 13 years and enjoyed his work in the fruit stand at Shatzer’s Orchard. He was a member of Antrim Assembly of God where he served on the church board. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 46 in Chambersburg. Donald enjoyed bowling and was in several leagues and senior leagues at Lincoln Lanes and Nellie Fox. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, going out for ice cream, and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen Blanche Peck Shannon, whom he married on May 31, 1968, three daughters, Darcy Shannon-Harnish (husband Larry) of Chambersburg, Levey Carbaugh (husband Jerry) of Chambersburg, and Marnie Hoffmann (husband Chad) of Amberson; eight grandchildren, Courtney Shannon, Christian Shannon, Justine Tracey (husband Josiah), Landon Carbaugh, and Layton (fiancé Kendra), Allyson, Jenna, and Toree Hoffmann; four great grandchildren, Kay’Lianna, Ly’Onna, Janessa and Maverick; and three siblings, Kenneth Shannon (wife Dottie) of Fayetteville, Linda Bricker (husband Gale) of Mercersburg, and Cindy Jones of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by three siblings, Samuel Shannon, Jr., Richard Shannon, and Joyce Timmons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 5, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Shawn Peck and Pastor Renee Berkey will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens where military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
