Donald Sollenberger

Donald T. Sollenberger, 88, of Chambersburg, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at his home. Born August 8, 1924 in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late Harry G. and L. Alcesta Duffield Sollenberger. A 1942 graduate of Chambersburg High School, Donald earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1945 and his Master’s Degree from that university in 1949. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served honorably in both World War II and the Korean War. Donald worked as a mathematics teacher at CASHS where he retired in 1979. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where he was a former deacon and choir member. He also held membership in the National Education Association – Retired, the Pennsylvania State Education Association – Retired, and the BPO Elks Lodge #600, Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christina D. Sollenberger, whom he married on February 2, 1949; two sons, Lee A. Sollenberger (Pamela) of Exeter, NH, and Craig D. Sollenberger (Helen) of Buffalo, NY; and three grandchildren, Lauren Sollenberger of Bejing, China, Craig Sollenberger (Katie) of Augusta, GA, and Catherine Sollenberger of Buffalo, NY. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by a brother, Harold D. Sollenberger

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013, at 1:30 PM in Norland Cemetery, 2295 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA where Rev. Mark Ruzicka will officiate.
