Donald L. Witmer, 81, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Ephrata Hospital. Born August 21, 1940 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Paul and Martha Martin Witmer.
A 1958 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Donald went on to honorably serve in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963. He then worked at Letterkenny Army Depot as the Chief maintenance quality assurance officer, retiring in 1993. Post retirement, he was a delivery driver for David H. Martin Excavating in Chambersburg. He was a member of the George Washington Lodge #143 F&AM; the Cumberland Valley wood carvers, and various other social clubs. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to travel and was a skilled wood worker and carver.
Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Wenger Witmer, whom he married on July 16, 1961; children Monty Witmer and wife Cathy, Troy Witmer and wife Jennifer, and Shawn Witmer and wife Vanessa; eight grandchildren, Chance, Colin, Courtney, Sydney, Lindsey, Justin, Easton, and Kendyl (wife of Matthew Wenger); and brothers, Dale and Richard, and sister Donna Johnston.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg where Jay Peterson will officiate. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service in the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted at 12:30 PM in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW will render honors.
