Dora Gift

Dora M. Gift, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Menno Haven Nursing Home. Born October 29, 1923 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Levi Joseph and Addie Ocalla Schall Stermer.
Mrs. Gift worked at the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg for 21 years; where she retired and went on to work at the Public Opinion for 5 years and later Fashion Lane in sales for 5 years. She was a member and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary BPOE 600, member of the VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary, the Franklin County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary, the National and the Norland AARP 3261, and Solomon’s United Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with family, knitting, and reading.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Jacqueline Gift-Wilson of Moore, SC, Robert L. Gift (wife Peggy) of Chambersburg, PA, Gina M. Loose of Fannettsburg, PA; seven great grandchildren, Mindy Gift, Buffy Lininger, Amy Reed, Danielle Gift, Jessica Cooley, Janeva Cooley, and Tyler Harris; and seven great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Zereau Higgins of Mercersburg, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. “Bud” Gift on February 14, 2003, whom she married on October 6, 1940, one son, Terry L. Gift on July 9, 1987, two sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11:30AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 ` Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name to the Falling Spring Nursing Home, 201 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to Solomon’s United Church of Christ, 1594 Swamp Fox Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
