Doretta Mickley

Doretta Maye Mickley, 84, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at her home. Born July 23, 1928 in Hustontown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Orville and Ada Deshong Mellott. A graduate of the Hagerstown Business School, she was employed for more than thirty years at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring in 1988. After retiring from Letterkenny she was employed at Menno Haven for several years and also volunteered as a preparer with the AARP Tax-Aide program. Mrs. Mickley was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg and its Alda Bower Sunday School Class and also held membership in the VFW and Moose Lodge, both in Chambersburg, and in the AARP. She was an avid shopper and earlier in her life enjoyed crocheting. Mrs. Mickley was a loving and kindhearted mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her husband, Guy A. Mickley, whom she married March 7, 1951, preceded her in death on January 13, 1990.

She is survived by four children, Kenneth Mickley and wife Darla of Chambersburg, Judy Hillman and husband Rick of Buchanan, VA, Gary Mickley of Chambersburg, and Tammy Dougal and husband Michael of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Guy C. Mickley, Amanda J. Mickley, Abigail M. Dougal, and Jacob M. Dougal; a sister, Freida J. Mellott of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda L. McCammon and Doris R. Worthington; and a brother, Norman E. Mellott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 225 South Second Street, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Dick Williams, Rev. John Ile, and Rev. Donald Nolder officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 AM Wednesday at the church.
