Doris Henry Bard, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday morning, August 22, 2014. Born May 3, 1931 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Reba Nye Henry. Mrs. Bard was a 1949 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and was employed for more than twenty years with the former United Telephone Company, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Fourth Street Church of the Brethren, and a life member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Landis McCleaf Detachment, Marine Corps League in Chambersburg. Known for her witty sense of humor, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and telling jokes. Her hobbies included reading, antiques, and country decorations.
She is survived by her husband, Bennett Bard, whom she married November 25, 1956; four children, Kelly Jacobs (John) of Chambersburg, Carl Ray Bard (Sondra) of Reading, B. Keith Bard of Chambersburg, and Karen Bard Koermer (Kelly) of Bel Air, MD; and five grandchildren, Erik Jacobs, Marc Jacobs, Amy Bard, Nicholas Pirovolidis, and Tanner Pirovolidis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Naugle and Ruby Houser; and a brother, Carl Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Daniel House and Rev. Darlene Stouffer will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
