Doris Irene "Dorie" Bartholomew

Doris Irene “Dorie” Bartholomew, age 81, of Chambersburg, PA slipped away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at her sister’s home, while surrounded by her loving family. Born August 9, 1943, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Myron L. and Violet L. Ickes Sollenberger.

Dorie was a 1961 graduate of CASHS, she went on to pursue a career in healthcare as a nursing assistant for over 40 years. Although Dorie and her husband never had children, she was known to “adopt” everyone else’s. She worked concessions for the baseball/softball teams and led clam bakes supporting children’s activities. Notably, while living in Sellersville, Dorie cared for many of her older neighbors in her community. In her spare time, she collected swans, enjoyed attending auctions, completing puzzles when she was able, and going out to dinner with her Trojan Diner Crew. She was dealt a difficult hand, including losing her vision and enduring several illnesses. Her spitfire nature would not let her stay down; her vibrant soul, made her the “life of the party”. She enjoyed entertaining and cherished time with her friends and family. She especially loved going to the casino and living life to its fullest every day. In her final months, she treasured time with her cherished friends and family and having as much fun as she could.

Dorie is survived by her sisters, Donna Sollenberger, Diane Freeman, Debra Johnson (husband Tim) all of Chambersburg, PA; two nieces, Amy Ruscetti (husband Dave) and Melissa Dick (husband Cory); six great-nieces and nephews, Claire, Dylan, Nick, Dalton, Marley, and Lydia; and the rest of her extended family including Tom, Beth, and Ted. In addition to her parents, Dorie was preceded in death by her brother in law, Larry Freeman, and her beloved husband, Charles Bartholomew in 1999. A special thank you to Travis and the rest of the Trojan Diner crew for loving and supporting Dorie as family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11 AM at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Drive, Fayetteville, PA 17222, where Pastor Robin Baer will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Air Hill Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Chambersburg, PA.
