Doris Jean Brown, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. Born February 11, 1937 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Blanche McLucas Hornbaker.
Doris was a 1955 graduate of CASHS. She spent most of her working years as a caregiver for elderly people in the community. A very giving and caring person, Doris was also involved in a number of senior groups with in her church including the Jolly 60’s program. She was a faithful member of The Open Door Church in Chambersburg where she sang in several choirs and ensembles. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, cooking for her family, shopping, reading and coloring. She collected music boxes and loved setting up and adding to her Christmas Carnival every year during the holiday season.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Russel Edward Brown, whom she married on July 1, 1965; three children, Linn Whitfield of Chambersburg, Fawne Cook (husband Frank) of Fayetteville, and Michael Brown of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Jennifer Runk (husband Jason), Shelley Reading (husband Mike), Beau Cook, and Tyler Brown (wife Amy); 13 great grandchildren; and numerous cousin, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Pete Rathel and Rev. Phyllis Martin will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8:30 – 10:30 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
