Doris J. Taylor, 82, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2021, at her home while surrounded by her family. Born April 24, 1939, in Guilford Township, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Florence V. Yeager Barnhart. Doris was a 1957 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School and had been employed at her family’s business, E.J. Barnhart Trucking. She was a member of The Open Door Church and its Fidelis Sunday School Class. She served as a Sunday school teacher for 34 years and volunteered in the church office for 20 years. She enjoyed puzzles, playing games with family, bowling, and baking.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald E. Taylor, whom she married August 22, 1959; her son, Ron Taylor (Kim); two daughters, Sandy Taylor (Keith Picking) and Debbie Kriner (Casey), all of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Dustin Geyer (Jen), Kylee Hill (Michael), Spencer Taylor (Shayla Kline), and Kiana Herman (Paul); four great-grandchildren, Dustin, Dominic, Easton, and Monroe; and her sister, Donna Shank (Bill) of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Barnhart.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, June 4, 2021, at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mike Sanders and Rev. Carl McKee will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 AM on Friday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
