Doris Washinger

Doris F. Washinger, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday morning, September 9, 2012 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 24, 1931 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Howard G. and Kathleen Helman Frey. She was a graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and the former Chambersburg Business School. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Washinger was a member of Heidelberg Church in Marion where she sang for many years with the church choir. She was a member of the Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Chambersburg and Harry D. Zeigler Post 6319 VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Greencastle. Her husband, J. Richard Washinger, whom she married October 12, 1951, preceded her in death on July 22, 2009

Mrs. Washinger is survived by her son, Michael F. Washinger and wife Vicki of Chambersburg; two daughters, Susan K. Byrd and husband Robert T. of Trinity, NC and Barbara A. Curfman and husband Martin J. of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Cara S. McGwin and husband Drew L., Robert J. Byrd, Sara L. Shank and husband Chad, Hannah K. Curfman, Samuel M. Curfman, and Abigail C. Byrd; and her great-granddaughter, Bailey H. McGwin. She is also survived by her brother, Howard G. Frey, Jr. and wife Betty of Port Natchez, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 14, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Adam Leeper and Rev. John Ile will officiate. Private interment will be in Norland Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday and 10:00-11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
