Dorothy M. “Peg” Appel, 87, of Chambersburg, died Thursday morning, October 3, 2013 at Quincy Village. Born October 6, 1925 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Ruth Ridgley Saunders.
A homemaker most of her life, Peg enjoyed cooking for her family. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, and ceramics. She was a member of Chambersburg First Church of God and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Peg is survived by two sons, Jon M. Shade and wife Linda R., and Jeffery L. Shade and wife Terry J., both of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, John C. Shade and wife Jackie D. of Sadsburyville, PA, Jessica L. Briggs and husband Brandon of Blairs Mills, PA, and Emily J. Shade of Chambersburg; one great-granddaughter, Sara M. Shade; and one sister, Betty Fahnestock of Chambersburg. She is preceded in death by her first husband, John R. Shade in 1969; second husband, Wayne Appel in 2004; and one brother, Roy D. Saunders.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 7, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, 17202. Rev. Lawrence Metzler will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
