Dorothy A. “Dottie” (McNeal) Fochtman, 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 15, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. Born July 20, 1945 in Johnstown, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Bertha A. Spitko McNeal. Mrs. Fochtman was a 1963 graduate of the Johnstown High School and worked early in her life at a sewing factory in Johnstown. She then attended airline school in Minnesota and went to work for the former National Airlines in New York. She later was employed photographing newborns at the Chambersburg Hospital and then with Edward Jones in Chambersburg. She was last employed with Mother’s Day Out at Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg, retiring after 20 years. She also worked the local election polls for many years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where she volunteered in numerous positions throughout her lifetime. She treasured time spent with her grandson and was an excellent baker.
Mrs. Fochtman is survived by her husband, William D. Fochtman, whom she married June 27, 1969; two daughters, Candace Fochtman and Melissa Fochtman, both of Fayetteville; her grandson, Patrick Poling of Chambersburg; her sisters-in-laws, Elsie McNeal and Janeta Aspey; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary E. Ludwig; and her brother, William J. McNeal.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Ruth Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be in Richland Cemetery, Johnstown, PA.
