Dorothy Jones

Dorothy M. Jones, 90, of Chambersburg, went to be with the Lord and her beloved late husband, G. Leroy Jones, on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born January 31, 1921 in Huntingdon County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Elby M. and Theresa Moyer Boring.

A 1940 graduate of Alexandria High School in Alexandria PA, Dorothy went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1943 from the Pennsylvania State University. Early in her teaching career, she taught at State College High School for several years. She served as the Cumberland County Extension Home Economist for 2 ½ years. Dorothy retired in 1984 from the Big Spring School District where she taught for 27 years and served as a National Honor Society Advisor. Dorothy was a 4-H leader for 30 years in the Newville area, serving on the executive committee in that organization. She also served on the Penn State Alumni Council for a number of years and was a former member of the Penn and Mifflin Grange. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg and a former long-time member of First United Presbyterian Church in Newville where she served as a Trustee and an Ordained Elder.

She is survived by two daughters, Gail T. Vaughn and husband Richard of Chambersburg and Lois A. Hutchison and husband Stephen of Lewisberry; two grandchildren, Michelle Pasterick and Chad Vaughn; her sister, Sarah L. Kagarise of Uniontown, OH; and her brother, Elby M. Boring Jr. of Gettysburg, PA. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 7, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg where Rev. Dick Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
