Dorothy Koons

March 23, 1921 — August 30, 2011

Dorothy Bietsch Koons, age 90, formerly of Grandview Avenue, Chambersburg, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in Penn Hall. Born on March 23, 1921 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late James G. and Irene C. Dessem Bietsch.

A 1938 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Dot also attended the former Chambersburg Business College. She worked for years in the business office of the former United Telephone Company in Chambersburg. Dot was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 Ladies Auxiliary, both in Chambersburg.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, C. William Koons; one daughter, Judith K. (and husband, Dennis) Cump, all of Chambersburg; four granddaughters, Denise McLucas, Tina Klenzing, Becky Cump, all of Chambersburg, and Jodi Pyle of Hanover; nine great grandchildren, Andrew, Carley and Emma McLucas; Joshua, Jordan, and Jamie Klenzing, Sarah Cump, Alexander and Jenna Pyle; and one great great grandson, Camden Klenzing.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Rev. Charles Kampmeyer and Chaplain Robert Keener will officiate. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
