Dorothy McEldowney

Dorothy “Dottie” McEldowney, age 77, of St. Thomas, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Born April 29, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Esther Jones Walls.
A 1960 graduate of the former St. Thomas High School, Dottie went on to work at the former Stanley company for many years until it’s closure; she then worked for The Shook Home and lastly at the former Vo-Tech school in Chambersburg, where she retired in 2012. She was a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 612 in St. Thomas. Dottie enjoyed spending time with family, bowling, going to the beach, racing, and in general sports in her later years; her most cherished time was spent with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 54 years, Loy M. McEldowney whom she married December 27, 1964; three children, Loy M. McEldowney, Jr. of Spring, TX, Lisa M. Sollenberger (husband Brian) of Chambersburg, PA, and Troy V. McEldowney of St. Thomas, PA; seven grandchildren, Nathan Sollenberger (wife Sarah), Aaron Sollenberger, Marisa McEldowney (fiancé Andrew Boxler), Jayson Sollenberger, and Chase, Braden, and Skyler McEldowney; four siblings, Beverly Burkholder (husband John), Clair “Butch” Walls, Jr. (wife Debbie), Jerry Walls (wife Joanne), and Denny Walls (wife Connie); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Reed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Harold Yeager will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
