Dorothy Meyers Butler

Dorothy R. Meyers Butler, age 84, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011 in Providence Place. Born on February 3, 1927 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles Rife and Ruth Wenger Rife. She was the widow of Martin W. Meyers, who preceded her in death on January 4, 1983.

Dorothy was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and its Golden Links Sunday School Class. A homemaker, she also assisted her first husband in the family’s bookkeeping business years ago. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, and painting in oils and watercolors.

Surviving are her children, Randy Meyers of Mechanicsburg and Darla Pilgrim (and her husband, Mark) of Chambersburg; two sisters, Dora Reinhard of Florida and Kathleen Bell of Newville; two grandsons, Justin Pilgrim (and wife, Lauren) and Jared Pilgrim; and one great grandson, Kiefer Pilgrim. Aside from her first husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Rife, and second husband, Thomas Butler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10AM on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker and Rev. Lester F. Stine officiating. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
