Dorothy M. Olson, 78, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on September 4, 1933 in Waynesboro, PA, she was a daughter of the late Martin L. Smith and Lily M. (Myers) Smith. She was the widow of James W. Olson, who preceded her in death on October 23, 1984 after 34 years of marriage.
Dorothy attended Waynesboro High School. A homemaker, Dorothy spent most of her life taking care of her family. She was a member of the Marion First United Methodist Church. Her most cherished times were those spent with her family. She also enjoyed line dancing at the Chambersburg Senior Center.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Darlene S. West and her husband, Phil, of East Berlin and Trina R. Olson of Chambersburg; 4 sons, James W. Olson and his wife, Debbie, Terry L. Olson and his wife, Julie, Gary A. Olson and his wife, Mary, and Jon Eric Olson and his wife, Mandy, all of Chambersburg; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandsons; 9 great grandchildren, 3 step- great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mary J. Myers of Oregon, Delores J. Mosser of Zullinger, and Nancy K. Christophel of Chambersburg; and 1 brother, Martin L. Smith II of Milford, DE. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherryl J. (Rotz) Cline; a granddaughter, Beth A. Olson; a grandson, Mark A. Olson; 3 brothers, William M. Smith, Elmer S. Smith, and Louis H. Smith; and five sisters, Charlotte A. Cordell, Betty M. Patterson, Clara Smith, Helen L. McKean and Katherine Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, October 28, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Chris Renner and Rev. John Ile officiating. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 – 9:00 PM on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
