Dorothy K. “Dottie” Rotz, 95, formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday morning, October 2, 2016 at Community General Hospital in Harrisburg. Born May 29, 1921 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Samuel S. and Elva Lizzie Kane Kitner. A 1939 graduate of the Carlisle High School, Mrs. Rotz was employed early in her life with the Department of Labor and Industry and the Department of Employment and Unemployment Compensation, both in Harrisburg. She retired in 1985 from the former Valley Bank and Trust Company in Chambersburg where she had worked as a bookkeeper for 17 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Alda Bower Sunday school class. She was a member of the Falling Spring Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She volunteered with the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and at Menno Haven. Mrs. Rotz will be greatly missed by the staff of the Ecumenical Retirement Community in Harrisburg, where she will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humor. Her husband, Calvin B. “Sam” Rotz, Jr., whom she married September 29, 1946, preceded her in death on January 20, 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda R. Weldon and husband Keith of Camp Hill, PA; three grandchildren, Erica Jamison and husband Robert, Matthew Weldon and wife Kristy, and Nathan Weldon and wife Melissa; eight great-grandchildren, Tayler Jamison, Caley Jamison, Cameryn Jamison, Cole Jamison, Addisyn Weldon, Kayla Weldon, Emma Weldon and Blaine Weldon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen L. Rotz, six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, October 7, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dianne B. Salter will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
