Mr. Douglas E. “Doug” Effland, 50, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 in the UPMC West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, PA. Born February 26, 1970 in Chambersburg, PA he was the son of Ronald A. and Saundra M. (Longnecker) Effland.
He was a graduate of James Buchanan High School with the Class of 1988. Doug attended trade school, obtained his CDL, and graduated from the Police Academy. He was a Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officer graduating under the Act 120 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Doug was currently employed as a material handler at Volvo-Mack Truck, Hagerstown, MD were he had worked for the past 16 years.
He was a life-member of the St. Thomas Sportsman Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.
In addition to his parents he is survived by two children, Nicholas Effland of Shippensburg, PA and Ashley Effland of North Carolina; a grandson, Nathan, Jr.; two brothers, Ronald D. Effland and his wife Angela of Shippensburg and Samuel Effland and his wife Karen of Fort Loudon, PA; two nephews, four nieces; six great-nephews and one great-niece.
Doug is preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Effland and a great niece.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 A.M., Monday, January 11, 2021 in St. Thomas Cemetery, Pioneer Road, St. Thomas, PA with Pastor Wayne Hall and Mr. Darryl Kissinger officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Monday morning in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. CDC social distancing and mask requirements will be in place.
