Dr. David M. Rahauser passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at his home at Penn Hall, Menno Village, Chambersburg. Born July 19, 1922, he was the son of the late David Miller Rahauser and Fannie Mowery Rahauser.
Dr. Rahauser graduated from the Chambersburg High School in 1940 and Dickinson College in 1944. He served in the United States Army in WWII as a medic, and was stationed in occupied Japan at the conclusion of WWII. Upon his discharge, Dr. Rahauser returned to Chambersburg, where he opened his medical practice at 634 Lincoln Way East. Beginning as an individual practitioner, the medical practice grew into the partnership of Doctors Rahauser, Van Kirk, Barton and Davis, which continued until his retirement in 1992.
A portion of Dr. Rahauser’s medical practice included serving as the school physical at the former Scotland School for Veteran’s Children. He was also a long time member and former officer of the Franklin County Medical Society, as well as a member of numerous national medical societies and organizations. Dr. Rahauser was devoted to his medical practice. He made house calls, delivered babies, saw patients in the emergency room and often acted as a family counselor as well as a medical doctor. Dr. Rahauser took great pride in his skill as a diagnostician.
In 1947, Dr. Rahauser married the former Janet Cunningham. Upon the couple’s return to Chambersburg, they moved into their home at 147 East Washington Street, which remained the family home and focal point for 45 years.
In his early years, Dr. Rahauser spent summers camping and golfing at Caledonia State Park. This produced two life long loves, hiking in Caledonia State Park and golf. He was an avid golfer, playing regularly into his eighties.
During his retirement years, Dr. Rahauser enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling with his wife.
