Dr. Martin Heine

Dr. Martin Kurtz "Marty" Heine, 56, of Fayetteville, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 18, 2011, in Greene Township while hiking with his wife, Laurice. Born on March 10, 1955, in Bellefonte, PA, he was the son of Stephen V. and Alice Edwards Heine of Huntingdon.

Martin was a 1973 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School, where he was a high honor student and a Bearcat football player and wrestler. In 1977 he was graduated from Dickinson College, where he played football and was named to the prestigious White Hat honor society. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1981. After an internship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, he practiced medicine in Medical Centers and Emergency Centers in Tionesta and Oil City, PA. Dr. Heine practiced as an Emergency physician and Director of the Emergency Department at the Chambersburg Hospital, where he has been on staff for the last 19 years. He also served as the Assistant Medical Director of Lifenet emergency air transportation services. He was Board Certified in Emergency and Trauma Medicine. Dr. Heine was a lifelong member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church and attended the Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his adoring wife of 14 years, Dr. Laurice (Dolence) Heine, whom he married on June 7, 1997; four children, Lyndsey G. Heine, Andrew Martin Heine, Rebecca R. Heine, all of Philadelphia, and Grace K. Heine, at home in Chambersburg; one sister, Jennifer H. Vidmer, husband Gary and their children Abigail K. and Kurt S. of Chagrin Falls, OH.

In addition to being a wonderful husband, father, son and brother, Dr. Heine was a man with an adventurous spirit with many interests. These included hunting and fishing, golf, hiking, kayaking, flying, and enjoying his cottage on Basswood Lake in Northern Ontario with his family. Many of his patients have expressed deep gratitude for his wonderful care. Admired and respected by his colleagues, he was known for his excellent clinical and personal skills. Generous to a fault, he was always tuned in to the needs of others before his own. His deepest passion was his love and enjoyment of his family and friends, who will miss him so very much.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in the Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg, with Reverend Christopher T. Little officiating. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held on Monday at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and also from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church on Tuesday.
