Dr. Richard Albert Allias, 83, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home after a long term illness. Born February 14, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Angela Gerino Allias. He was raised and spent most of his early life in Springdale, PA. He was a graduate of the Springdale High School and graduated in 1952 from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA with a B.A. degree. He then served in the US Army between 1952 and 1954, during the Korean War. Dr. Allias graduated in 1958 from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree and he was awarded the Mosby Scholarship Award. He practiced dentistry for six years in Lower Burrell prior to moving with his family to Waynesboro in April of 1964. He retired from dentistry after 41 years. Dr. and Mrs. Allias joined the Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro in 1964 and he served on the church’s nominating committee for two years. He was a former member and Past President of the Waynesboro Area School Board and served on the Waynesboro Hospital Board of Directors. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, and the Cumberland Valley Dental Society. Dr. Allias was a member and Past President of the Lions Club of Waynesboro, the Greater Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce, and Joe Stickell Post 15 American Legion of Waynesboro. He served as treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 56 and was a long time member of the Waynesboro Country Club. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, traveling, gardening, home projects, and spending time with his family. He was an avid reader.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ella L. Staudt Allias, whom he married November 24, 1955; two daughters, Tami L. Allias of Pittsburgh, PA and Gigi Stridinger and husband Eric of Latrobe, PA; two sons, Steven R. Allias of New Kensington, PA and Marcus R. Allias of York, PA; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Rose Marie Cherry of Springdale, PA and Isabelle Stafeldt of Naples, FL; as well as a brother, James Allias of Charlotte, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Allias.
Services and interment will be private.
